Eighteen year-old Ashley Murphy is a remarkable young woman who has overcome some seemingly insurmountable odds.

Born to parents unable to care for her, Ashley was fighting for her life in the hospital at just six weeks of age. She was born HIV positive, and the condition had developed into AIDS. After a three and a half month long coma she was placed into foster care, for palliative care. Predictions of Ashley having only weeks to live proved false as this little fighter surprised everyone by not only surviving but thriving.

Ashley lived openly with her HIV status since the age of seven and has been speaking publicly about her condition since age 10. She has spoken at We Day events across Canada, sharing the stage with personalities like Martin Sheen, Martin Luther King III and Magic Johnson. Ashley’s story has inspired many people around the world, especially others with HIV and medical professionals with the message that we can all overcome our challenges—and use them to help others.  She encourages people to forgo “normal” and become extraordinary.
