Having experienced life in Canada’s largest social housing neighbourhood, Mustafa has defined personal success in terms of helping his community succeed. Finding his voice through poetry, he took part in poetry workshops – inspiring youth with his thoughts on the minority youth experience – while also leading school theatre and tutoring programs.

Mustafa Ahmed has performed on We Day stages across Canada and the USA, alongside speakers and performers such as Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Selena Gomez, Orlando Bloom, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Col. Chris Hadfield, Mia Farrow and Kweku Mandela. He has opened up for artists such as Jhené Aiko and Pharaohe Monch and has performed alongside Margaret Atwood and Nelly Furtado.

In 2014, Mustafa released his debut poetry EP, and he hopes to use his writing skills to touch hearts, minds and inspire younger generations to be more active in the world, through his spoken word and workshops. Mustafa is also the Youth Poet Laureate of the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Testimonials

  • Inspiring, thought provoking, overwhelming, introspective, genius, and heartbreaking barely covers the gamut of emotions brought out by a young man whose depth of character outweighs his age. He was embracing, compassionate, funny, understanding and inspiring. An amazing experience and an amazing young man!

Mustafa Ahmed Heidi Werner, Algoma Fall Festival
  • My students loved the workshop experience, as they feel that few English classes allow for creative writing and they liked his interactive method of storytelling.
